We consider a single machine scheduling problem in which the objective is to minimize the mean absolute deviation of job completion times about a common due date. We present an algorithm for determining multiple optimal schedules under restrictive assumptions about the due date, and an implicit enumeration procedure when the assumptions do not hold. We also establish the similarity of this problem to the two parallel machines mean flow time problem.  相似文献

In this article we consider a continuous-time Markov decision process with a denumerable state space and nonzero terminal rewards. We first establish the necessary and sufficient optimality condition without any restriction on the cost functions. The necessary condition is derived through the Pontryagin maximum principle and the sufficient condition, by the inherent structure of the problem. We introduce a dynamic programming approximation algorithm for the finite-horizon problem. As the time between discrete points decreases, the optimal policy of the discretized problem converges to that of the continuous-time problem in the sense of weak convergence. For the infinite-horizon problem, a successive approximation method is introduced as an alternative to a policy iteration method.  相似文献

Let X denote a random vector with a spherically symmetric distribution. The density of U = X'X, called a “generalized chi-square,” is derived for the noncentral case, when μ = E(X) ≠ 0. Explicit series representations are found in certain special cases including the “generalized spherical gamma,” the “generalized” Laplace and the Pearson type VII distributions. A simple geometrical representation of U is shown to be useful in generating random U variates. Expressions for moments and characteristic functions are also given. An algorithm is given for solving minimum-cost flow problems where the shipping cost over an arc is a convex function of the number of units shipped along that arc. This provides a unified way of looking at many seemingly unrelated problems in different areas. In particular, it is shown how problems associated with electrical networks, with increasing the capacity of a network under a fixed budget, with Laplace equations, and with the Max-Flow Min-Cut Theorem may all be formulated into minimum-cost flow problems in convex-cost networks.  相似文献

We study new decision and optimization problems of finding a simple path between two given vertices in an arc weighted directed multigraph such that the path length is equal to a given number or it does not fall into the given forbidden intervals (gaps). As a complex system with multiple components usually deteriorates with age, preventive maintenance (PM) is often performed to keep the system functioning in a good state to prolong its effective age. In this study, a nonhomogeneous Poisson process with a power law failure intensity is used to describe the deterioration of a repairable system, and the optimal nonperiodic PM schedule can be determined to minimize the expected total cost per unit time. However, since the determination of such optimal PM policies may involve numerous uncertainties, which typically make the analyses difficult to perform because of the scarcity of data, a Bayesian decision model, which utilizes all available information effectively, is also proposed for determining the optimal PM strategies. A numerical example with a real failure data set is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. The results show that the optimal schedules derived by Bayesian approach are relatively more conservative than that for non‐Bayesian approach because of the uncertainty of the intensity function, and if the intensity function are updated using the collected data set, which indicates more severe deterioration than the prior belief, replacing the entire system instead of frequent PM activities before serious deterioration is suggested. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
